Editing/Creating your “About” page.

Yes – this needs to be a PAGE and not a Post. It won’t change regularly and will always be relevant.

Why is it called About?

The purpose of the About Page is to answer the question, “What gives you the right to tell me?” There are many ways to say this, and answer this question, so let’s make it a gentle request to create trust. “I have the right to tell you these things because I’ve been there, done that, got the t-shirt, and have experience to prove it.”

PLANNING

Starting a new website can be fairly daunting. There are so many things to think about!

A lot of these things you may not have considered yet. Think about so many of the sites that you look at on a regular basis. They have many common features. They will usually have a contact area where we can make contact with the author in some way, shape or form. This may be an email address, phone number or (as is increasingly the case) some kind of contact form that you need to type into to get a message to the site’s owner.

Categories and Tags

GOAL:
To create Categories and Tags for YOUR SITE that suit your topic. (Also to then assign them to your content.)

Today we are going to focus on posts, specifically how they are organised and structured within a WordPress site.

  • Categories are your site’s Table of Contents.
  • Tags are your site’s index words.

It’s that simple.

Speeding up your experience on the school WordPress Server

“Things will work more quickly if we use numbers rather than words.”

Because our school server is not directly attached to the Internet (it is a couple of networks removed from our ISP’s gateway to the Internet) things can get a little bit slow when we make them visible from outside the school.
